Chin and Cheek Implants
Facial implants are used to augment the bony structures of the face. The most common areas for implant use are the cheek and chin. The implants are made out of a synthetic plastic type material. They are well tolerated by the body and are engineered to create a three-dimensional augmentation effect. The implants are made in various sizes for different degrees of augmentation.
Chin implants are placed either through an incision under the chin or through an intra oral incision below the lower incisor teeth. A pocket is created over the bone of the lower jaw extending from the chin out laterally. The implant is then placed in the pocket and secured with either a small surgical screw or sutures.

Cheek implants are placed either through an incision under the upper lip or through a lower eyelid incision. A pocket is created over the cheekbone into which the implant is placed and secured.
Facial implants can be performed as an isolated procedure or may be combined with other surgeries. The recovery time for these procedures is about 7 to 10 days. You can expect to experience some swelling; however, bruising is usually limited in nature.
Other types of implants for the filling of facial lines are available. The most common sites for these types of implants are the nasolabial folds and the smile lines around the mouth. In addition, lip implants are available to augment lips for fuller lips.
