Eyelid Lift / Blepharoplasty

Eyelid surgery is performed to remove excess skin and bags from the eye lids to restore a more youthful appearance. In some individuals, adjustments in the upper eyelid position are made as well to correct a problem called ptosis. Upper eyelid surgery may be covered by insurance.

No one will argue that our eyes are one of our most important features. So when the skin around them becomes loose or puffy, it can make us appear older or more tired than we are. That’s when blepharoplasty can help. Blepharoplasty is the medical term for cosmetic eyelid surgery. It’s one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the country and can significantly impact a person’s appearance, making their eyes appear larger and their face more youthful. Eyelid surgery can effectively correct drooping lids above the eyes and the so-called puffy “bags” that often develop below. When combined with other procedures such as a brow lift, face lift or skin resurfacing, it can result in a dramatic improvement in appearance.

Recovery from eyelid surgery is generally rapid and simple with most people being back out in public in 5 to 7 days. You can expect some initial swelling and bruising, which is easily disguised after a few days with sunglasses. The use of make up may be resumed on the eyelids within 10 days of surgery. Some people do experience brief changes in the acuteness of their vision and the moisture of their eyes may decrease. For this reason, we recommend the use of artificial tears and lubricating eye ointments in the initial period after surgery.
